Why Flat Matters
New Floors Are Only as Good as What’s Under Them
Modern flooring is less forgiving than it looks. Click-lock LVP and laminate can flex, click or separate over dips, and large-format tile can end up with lippage (uneven edges) or hollow spots when the slab isn’t flat. Manufacturers publish flatness tolerances for a reason.
After the old floor is removed, we check the slab or subfloor with a straightedge, mark the high and low areas, and correct them — patching and feathering low spots, grinding ridges, and pouring self-leveling compound where a larger area needs it. This is cosmetic floor preparation for new flooring, not structural repair.
